For those who just sit and watch the game of bowling, it seems like an easy game of simply throwing a ball down the lane to knock down as many pins as possible, hoping to knock down all of them to achieve a perfect score. Obviously, this is what the game is about, but it isn’t as easy as it may sound or seem. It requires quite some efforts and skills to beat that game. There is a lot of practice needed to acquire the skills of practice. The ball is heavy, the lane is long, and there are gutters on both sides of the lane. With all of this being so challenging, it definitely requires practice to be able to win the game.
One may generally think that all you have to do is throw the ball hard down the lane into the center to knock down the pins, and just wait for luck to strike to hit down all the pins. But, this is not so. Just like any other game, there are various techniques and strategies involved in playing the game of bowling too. And, as per the techniques, a bowler is called by various names such as cranker, stroker, tweener, and chucker.
An aggressive player who likes to rejoice a great deal of power and confidence in his bowling game is a Cranker in the game of bowling. Such players use a lot of fast ball rotation and a distinct and dramatic backswing so much so that anyone in the ten-foot radius would have to back off. Crankers throw more splits than any other bowlers in the game.
Strokers are less about being dramatic or powerful, and are more leaning towards accuracy and a carefully-controlled approach. Strokers may not “look” as impressive as crankers to the viewers of the game, but their calculated methodologies will prove fruitful to win the game. In fact, many professional bowlers are strokers. Such players use more of smooth moves with a low back swing.
Tweeners are a mix of both Crankers and Strokers. They use the best of both worlds, using both dramatic moves with calculated methodologies.
Chuckers are generally into the game more for fun, rather than being a professional with the hopes of winning or impressing the onlookers. They use their very own techniques of throwing the ball, simply sending it down the lanes in the hopes that the ball doesn’t immediately fall into the gutter.
